In the UK there have been programmes about helping people clear out clutter/organise their homes. I found a programme called The Life Laundry interesting, because it looked at the psychological reasons for people keeping clutter and then challenged how they could bin it.
A book I found really helpful was Organising From The Inside Out - well worth a read if you are able to get hold of it. My perception is that as over the past century we have developed more free time, disposable income and ability to dabble in materialism (goals such as bigger income to buy house, car, technoglogy etc) life has in some ways beome more complicated. Thus people often do value help in helping them organise their lives, their homes, their space...
