Hi Everyone:

Anyone else having their knees acting up (lol)....

I don't know if this qualifies as ergonomics but it is job related as the elevators at work take forever and my boss is very impatient.

My office is on the 2nd floor and hers is on the 4th.

Now don't get me wrong, for the 5 months I have been working at this temporary job - the exercise was great. But about a week ago, I began to experience some serious pain in my right knee.

Decided to start taking the elevator - but still have to deal with the stairs at my daughter's apartment until 1/28 when I finally head home to no stairs - yippee.

Any tips on climbing stairs without adding more trauma to my knees?

Do you think reducing how much I use them will give them a chance to mend?

***I have tried to go down and up without placing all my weight on the knees, kind of hard to explain and to be honest very comical to see me going up and down. Seems to help***

Thank you,
Angela

I twisted my knee last summer trying to catch one of my dogs. The pain was excruciating for months. I was meant to have an operation but the hospital messed up so I decided not to go ahead with it.

I wore a knee brace for a while and kept on walking... with four dogs to walk I cant not walk. After a year it is still a bit painful if I bend or kneel.

I was told to keep moving it. Even though it hurt a lot. I have a friend who had the op and she still gets pain.

Try a hot/cold compress or some 'deep heat' cream.

Hope it gets better.

Peace

Hi Linda:

Thanks for the info.

And yes, I have heard "horror" stories about those knee surgeries.

I am glad you did not have it - things happen for a reason (hospital messing up).

***Weight also does not help, another incentive to not put weight on/lol***

Yes Angela that is what I thought, both my son and I were supposed to have ops last Christmas. My son smashed his heel on his left foot, I damaged my right knee lol.

The hospital messed up both of our appointments, my son was even told he had had his!!

Thought that was a sign not to do it. When my friend had it done and is in more pain now than I am, I thought I was glad I didn't.

The cold damp weather doesn't help and I totally agree about weight, I keep telling my son to lose weight then his foot would not hurt so much!

I don't have that problem, I am the one who walks our four dogs lol.

Hope your knee improves.

Peace

The moste recent article on the Ergonomics Site at BellaOnline is about Ergonomics and Knees - Especially for you and your aching compatriates. I'm one of them! The tricks it talks about are great for knees that are achy, but if you have consistent or sharp pain, be sure to see a doctor. Some problems are very serious. Knee Pain and Ergonomics

Hi Virginia:

LOL, my knees are so happy that my 6 month temporary job in Orlando, Florida finished up 1/28.

I am enjoying my walks up and down the hills in Phenix City, Alabama with Jeremiah, our Jack Russell Terrier. And NO PAIN. Yipppee...

I see you got the hang of those links. Way to go!!!! smile
