The Yew is one of the trees of which the functions and properties are central to the Druidic Religion. It is included among the Great Trees of their traditions and rituals.

Very interesting article. On the practical front Yew was planted in graveyards to ensure people kept their livestock from grazing there. It is also used as one approach to modern cancer treatment.
The Norse regarded it as the Yggdrasil'World Tree'(Yew Pillar) connecting the 9 worlds of Norse mythos, although other translations suggest it is an Ash tree.
On a personal note I use the pseudonym 'Ratatosk' for one of my friends mentioned in my books on practical magick as she embodied the essence of that character. This being the squirrel who carries 'messages' from the eagle at the top of the tree to the dragon living at the bottom.

Interesting history behind the Yew Tree - did you know that Yew Trees can come back to life when they die?

That is so interesting, Ian. I knew about the Yew as a deterrent to livestock, but have not gotten into the deeper mythology of the Yew and the gods yet.

I know the Yew is also helpful for headaches and other ailments -- yet, because of the poisonous aspects of the tree, it takes one who is very knowledgeable in the art of alternative medicines.

Thanks for the information. I love Norse mythology and will be looking into the "Yggdrasil'World Tree".

I did know that. The Celts and other cultures/religions see the tree as symbolic for rebirth, resurrection, and immortality.
