I've got it scattered about right now so I could find contrasting fabrics. It's mostly cotton quilting fabrics from small bits and pieces to large yardages. Any ideas are welcome!

Have you ever considered rolling the larger pieces onto tubes and storing the tubes in clear plastic tubs that stack?

Also, small pieces could be corralled in plastic storage bags according to their color, design, etc. Those can be put into clear plastic tubs.

The clear plastic tubs help to organize, since you can see into them.

The tubes sound like a good idea. I did have some rolled up and placed in clear containers but didn't like them being all floppy when they're pulled out. The tubes would keep them neater for sorting through.

If only I'd saved all those gift wrap tubes from the past ten years!

Most fabric stores will let you have the empty cardboards the fabric comes on. For small scraps, you can buy those inexpensive shoe box size plastic boxes with lids. I think JoAnn's has them. I have a few that are clear plastic and I keep scraps for a particular project in them. Another idea is the coat hangers with the clips on them. These work well for keeping the fabric wrinkle free and easy to sort and find.

I just inherited my husband's grandmothers entire sewing room. She has her fabric organized by type in tubs with lids. She put stickers on the containers "Christmas fabrics", "Civil War Reproductions" and she had a tub with only white fabrics. I have my fabric on a shelf...well my favorite which is 30s reproduction. I love to look at it. I have it arranged like a rainbow. I also have a good sized collection of brights. I keep my yardage in a drawer seperate from the smaller pieces.
