My husband and I started TTC in November 2009... to our surprise we got pregnant that month (yahoo!) I started spotting around 6 weeks but had an ultrasound at 7 weeks which showed a healthy pregnancy. At 11 weeks I had a miscarriage. We waited a month to TTC again and then after 3 months of trying we were pregnant again in April 2010 no spotting this time and 2 ultrasounds (10 & 13 weeks) that were both perfect. In my 16th week my water broke and then later was induced to deliver my baby. I also had a D&C after for the placenta. The pathology report came back "possibly gastroschisis". I asked my OB what "possibly" meant and she said that it could have been something that happened after the baby died... Anyway, my question is... Could I have had just terrible luck? Or with 2 m/c in a row.. one being in the second trimester... is there usually something wrong.. We are now in our 4 month of TTC... no luck yet :( Thanks...

Hi august25057:

I am so SORRY for your loss and issues. Were you not able to find out more details from your doctor or maybe google?

Sometimes I have been able to find out stuff online which has helped me make some health decisions.

I am finding that alot of doctors either do not keep up on the latest info or refuse to implement it.

I would strongly suggest talking with SEVERAL doctors and maybe joining a support group to expand your sources of information.

Best of luck and please let us know how you are doing smile

Hi Angela J. Shirley, Thanks for your response and concern. I know that we are all struggling or have had our fair share of struggles on this site. I was referred to a High Risk OB and in short, her advice was to just get pregnant again and they would monitor me closely. She did not run any tests or suggest anything about what could have caused my 2 m/c.. which goes back to my original question... Could I have had just bad luck? Because of all the hours I have spent researching on Internet I have made a new rule for myself. No laptops in the bedroom!! I have not found ANYTHING about someone having a miscarriage and having the baby diagnosed with gastroschisis. In fact, the nurse of the high risk OB told me she does not believe the m/c was caused from the gastroschisis because she see babies born with it all the time..... Anyway.. I will continue to search and continue to hope..

Hi,

I don't know anything about gastroschisis, but I have had two friends who had repeated miscarriages, and for both, the problem ended up being insufficient progesterone levels. They both used OTC progesterone supplementation of some kind (sorry, this was 10+ years ago, and I don't remember the exact product), but both went on to have healthy pregnancies and multiple children.

I'm not meaning to make light of a serious health issue; you should certainly do your research and talk to your doc, but I just wanted to share what I know second-hand from friends.

I wish you much luck in this department!!!

First, I am so sorry to hear what you're going through. I just experienced my 2nd mc in a row, too, and have been asking the same thing. I am finding it is difficult to know whether or not to believe a theory one healthcare provider has over another...basically, at this point, no one knows for sure. Of course it will be great to hear there is a specific reason why both mc happened and there is a fix for it. Hopefully you will get answers. My suggestions, if you're open to them, are to find a healthcare provider who will do some testing for you. My OB ordered the blood panels for the clotting and lupus. I'm also going to a repro specialist to do more blood testing. They said because I've had two in a row and I'm 36 they'd do it. I guess it depends on your insurance too. Also, start taking a baby aspirin a day; if you have an issue related to clotting this can help and it won't hurt if you don't have a problem. Last suggestion on the practical front, consider working with an acupunturist, if that is an option. The only "condition" the AMA endorses acupunture for is infertility and related issues. On an emotional note, I started to see a therapist who is reminding me it is important to work through the emotional stuff, too, not just "figure it out". She suggested I find a way to honor and acknowledge the losses. It's great to talk with someone who is willing to listen and sit with me through the tears that I still have. Thanks for sharing.

Hi everyone, I dont really think its a bad luck I just lost my second one about 20 days ago and I spent alot of time reading and reading i really didnt find anything I even went to few doctors and the only thing she said is we dont know the causes of a miscarraiges as all my tests were postive, so what is wrong 10 weeks and the heartbeats goes away i just dont know everything was normal and perfect. I guess we just have to keep trying and be strong and really best of luck for all whose trying for a baby, I think if i go on and share my story and what pain i went through it will take me forever no one understand only peple who experinced it believe me. thanks
