Homeless tuck into Thanksgiving feast

THURSDAY, NOV. 25: Thirty Butterfield Bank employees helped feed over 120 homeless members of our community during a special Thanksgiving luncheon at the Salvation Army today.
Major Shawn Critch, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army in Bermuda, said he was very pleased that he partnered with Butterfield this Thanksgiving and hoped that Butterfield�s volunteers felt as much of a sense of accomplishment as he did.
Major Critch said: �The Salvation Army relies so heavily on these partnerships � it was very encouraging. It provided us with a great opportunity for the community.�
When asked what he thought the reaction of those served a sit-down meal was, Major Critch �sensed there was a very good feeling among those who partook and who were treated with dignity and respect.�
�For many of them, the other homeless are all the family and community they have. They know and support each other in ways we can�t begin to appreciate. So it�s important to give them the dignity and respect they deserve, and let them know the corporate and volunteer communities support them as well.�
Sheila Brown, Butterfield�s senior vice president, Investment Services, was one of the Butterfield employees who helped feed the homeless.
�Butterfield employees like to lend their support to a worthy cause,� Ms Brown said. �But events such as this one are just part of Butterfield�s annual corporate giving efforts. We look forward to coming back to the Salvation Army next Thanksgiving.�
