I used to take lessons when I was in High School, now 52.

I remember that my instructor always told me the secret to hitting the ball is to keep your eye on the ball.

yes seeing the ball means seeing the fuzz on the ball hitting the strings on the racquet

Watching the ball helps with your timing and keeps your head over the ball through impact. You should start tracking the ball as soon as it leaves your opponent's racquet. A little trick is to try and read the number on the ball as it's coming towards you.
