...gas was $0.95.
...one could find Melon Pops without hunting all over the city.
...pop music had a variety of topical messages.
...cartoons only aired on the weekends.
...television went off the air at midnight.
...people would go to church all day on Sunday and at least one Bible study during the week.
...children were afraid (in a respectful healthy way) of their parents.

Dountonia, Hello!! May I comment on your memories? When my kids needed it they were also paddled. I remember when gas was 28 cents a gallon. That was before you were born probably. I don't know what Melon Pops were but I do remember how excited us kids were when the ice cream truck came around. Pop music did touch on many aspects of life and made us listen intently at times. I remember cartoons on Saturday, back then they were Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy, Howdy Doody and the Mickey Mouse club. T.V. did not go all night as you said and do you remember the old test pattern with a circle and an indian picture on it and that piercing tone that it made? That was just after they played the Star Spangle Banner or the Marines Hymn. I remember my Granddad who was the most loving Christian that I have ever known. I could not wait to stay at my grandparents house. Most everyone in town also loved and deeply respected my Grandfather also. I was so proud of both grandparents as a little guy. On Sunday morning when we were about ready to go to church Grandpa and I would look at each other and smile and say that scripture to each other,"I was glad when they said, let us go to the house of the Lord." and yes we need to respect one another and share that love both parent and child. Thank you Dountonia for reminding us of some really great days and blessings!!!!
