Is Avatar the last airbender really as terrible as the critics and fans of the cartoon say?

My son loved the series but not sure we want to watch the movie after reading so much bad stuff about it.

If you watched it what did you think?

I found it too long but saw it on DVD rather than at the cinema and think we probably missed a lot of the grandeur of the graphics. For me the storyline felt weak, although I felt it has some really interesting ideas in it, but a lot of people I know have raved about it.

I enjoyed it! And I'm a HUGE HUGE fan of the series.

There were a few changes - but I think that is something Hollywood does with nearly everything!

A couple of my friends were disappointed with it. I'm like, well what do you expect? They squeezed the entire first season into one movie. Give me a break! What's the first season - like 8 or 10 hours??? Jeeez!

I think I even got a little teary at the end - and am excited for the next installment!

Love the guy who plays Uncle Iroh. He's different - not the cuddly grampa type, but VERY compassionate and yummy to look at too!

I hadn't appreciated it was also a series. In the film it seemed to me that the battle scenes went on for ages and could have been condensed. So Deanna (or anyone else who is a fan of the series) did the series have more breaks between the battle stuff?

I really enjoyed it. I was with some total anime fans who did a bit of griping, but even they loved the Fire Nation.

We finally watched it and gave it a 2 out of 5 stars. My son is a HUGE fan of the show so he thought it was cheesy. I just thought the acting and special effects were not that great.

Avatar the movie was not so great. Yes, the CGI effects were amazing, but the story was predictable and the characters were stereotypes. The environment and native people message was overdone, extremely preachy and predictable. I enjoyed it, but I am glad I didn't pay to go see it. I give it a 2.5 out of 5.
