Have you had a mammogram?

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer seems to be claiming the lives of many African American women than any other race. What can we do to help prevent a greater loss of life, and to get women out their homes and to a doctor for early detection and life sustaining treatment?

Good subject to discuss, Ruthe. Sometimes I wonder if black women have not been taught to love themselves enough to visit the doctor on a regular basis for early detection exams (paps, mamograms, etc). We take everyone else to the doctor but will skip our own appointments (myself included). For a while, I was falling apart (physically) but still struggling to make sure everyone else in my family got to the doctor. I had to force an attitude adjustment on myself. If I am not alive and well, I cannot help anyone else get to the doctor. I am learning to take care of me too.

If black women want to reduce the incidence of cancer they will do well to learn about iodine supplementation.

Iodine can reduce and eliminate one of the leading associated symptoms for a high risk factor for breast cancer, that being fibrocystic breast disease.

In Japan breast cancer bearly exists. This is most likely due to the average 12.5 mg of iodine consumed every day.

For further education on iodine supplentation visit my blog and put iodine in the search tool and many articles and links will be found explaining the science of iodine supplementation and why we need it to maintain good health.
