I read an interesting quote yesterday about how people who don't exercise regularly are broken. I found it kind of harsh but at the same time true.

Considering that we were designed for dynamic movement i.e. hunting, gathering, building shelters, etc. and that most people today would rather just sit on their butts watching the latest episode of Biggest Loser (BL is like vicarious exercise for the lazy) I would have to agree with this guy.

If you're not exercising then you're basically going against your nature and denying your body what it needs for survival, health, happiness, etc.

If you don't like traditional exercise then don't do it but do something every day even if it's only for 10 min or at least try to increase your N.E.A.T., Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis.

Take the stairs, walk to your mailbox, walk during your lunch break, do your own cleaning, walk your dog more often, bike to work, take up an active hobby! This makes a huge difference. Stop fighting your body. It wants exercise even if your mind doesn't.

So glad my council job is quite active - although I have bought a multigym for when the writing takes off.......

Exercise is a wonderful outlet! If I am unable to walk the track, then I totally get down in the house. I turn on some music and start my cleaning routine and between rooms or while moving around, I dance. My kids think I'm crazy but I sleep well and burn off stress.

I have an aunt who always kept in amazing shape just by cleaning the house and walking to the store to pick up the paper every day (this involved going down and up a few steep hills). She loved going on her paper walk. She would also sing and dance while cleaning too and I always thought she was so funny but now I do it too. Makes cleaning not such a chore and you do burn more calories and reduce stress too : )

Check out these great cleaning workout tips . This is in spanish but you don't need to understand what she's saying. Just watch what this trainer does for great ideas.

She's basically showing how to incorporate bigger movements while cleaning and then add exercises to your cleaning to burn more calories. Great tips!

I totally agree...I feel as if I'm "broken" when I'm unable to incorporate some kind of movement in my day (i.e. when I'm sick). It's a daily challenge with an office job but not impossible.

I can't even imagine what life would be like if I couldn't move every day. I don't go more than 1 day without exercising. I am so grateful that I'm able to enjoy all kinds of movement. Life is short why waste it sitting on your butt all day right!
