Students in online distance learning courses have needs which are different from students in on campus courses. If there is help available through the school, they need to take advantage of it. They also need to be self-motivated and manage their time as if they had classes at a given time.

This is my latest article. Post comments here about it. Do you agree or disagree? Was this article helpful to you? Why nor why not?

Great piece. I totally agree. If it was not for my complete focus on my time management, I would flunk out. I'm panicking today because I'm a day behind on my final though it is not due till Sunday night. I want to be able to write it, review it, and make sure that it is my best work.

Going to school online is great because I do not have to worry about doctor appointments or sick children that might make me miss a class.I love doing school anytime and anywhere.

Another great piece, Elizabeth.

Totally agree with you Elizabeth. Students taking distance learning courses must exemplify extreme levels of discipline compared to those going the traditional route. They must be focused and well organized to complete their curiculums. As you said they must avail themselves of the utilities around them in order to succeed.

In general, online learners should strive to possess the following qualities: 1)Be open-minded about sharing life, work and educational experiences as part of the learning process. 2)Be able to communicate through writing. 3)Be self-motivated and self-disciplined. 4)Be willing to speak up if problems arise. 5)Be willing and able to commit to 5 to 10 hours per week per course. 6)Be able to meet the minimum requirements for the program. 7)Accept critical thinking and decision making as part of the learning process. 8)Have access to a computer and a modem. 9)Be able to think ideas through before responding.
