When you have your Eagle Court of Honor where you receive your patch and the pin for your mother, what is the extra pin called? You're supposed to give it to your mentor or who you look up to or something similar. Any information on this pin? My best friend is a year ahead of me in school and became an Eagle 6 months before me, I've known him all throughout Scouting. He left to join the Marines in late August and comes back in November for a few weeks. I would like to give him the pin because I look up to him and he's definitely my best friend.

Sorry for the delay- I've been on vacation and a trip at work and so I have been away from the site.

The small pin you get with your Eagle pin is usually given to your mother. There is a tie tack that is usually given to your father. Some troops also give a mentor pin as Leslie mentioned above. This is usually reserved for someone who was extra special and important to you in getting your Eagle rank- we never get there alone.

Having said that, these are general occurrences. Do not feel constrained to follow the guidelines- give the pin to the person who you think deserves it.

My son respected his Scoutmaster tremendously. He was appreciative of a man who helped to finance his Eagle project. However, there was one man who would give him a push when he needed it, came to all of the work parties, and donated his space and tools for constructing the project. This man got the mentor pin. It is truly up to the new Eagle. Go your own way.

Yes, I understand that this particular pin has more than likely already been given. This is a topic that many boys wrestle with. It is always fresh.
