If you are allergic to ragweed, there is a good chance you will experience oral allergy syndrome (OAS) this fall. OAS is a pollen-food allergy that occurs because your immune system reacts to foods that are similar to pollens you are allergic to, such as ragweed. Sheree -

That is so interesting and so helpful! I suddenly understand why oranges give me a stomach ache but I'm fine eating any other citrus!

hi..................

In oral allergy syndrome, the reaction is limited to the mouth, lips, tongue and throat.

I had an interesting chat about this with my allergist today. I've realized that the foods that are migraine triggers for me are all pollen cross reaction foods of things that I was allergic to as a kid (although I no longer test as allergic to them.) He told me that if I want, we can try allergy shots since in 50% of people they eliminate the food reactions.

He also gave me a list of the common foods he sees cross-reactions to and I realized that many of the foods on the list for those allergies (grass, ragweed and tree pollen) have been allowed on the elimination diets I used to determine trigger foods. So I think I need to do another elimination diet (UGH!)

Years ago, there was a rice shake product that you could drink as an elimination diet. Does anyone know what that was and if it still exists? I know it wouldn't be fun or super healthy to just live off rice for 3 weeks, but I think it would be worth it long term.

Today I started my elimination diet to avoid pollen cross-reaction foods (as well as my known allergies, I'm going to try to avoid common migraine triggers as well, but I'll add them in if I start dying of blandness.)

Last time I was on an allergy elimination diet, I kept a blog, so I've started posting there again - http://allergyeliminationdiet.blogspot.com/. I'll probably post here as well.

It's called UltraClear Plus. It's used for elimination diets. However, it's quite spendy. I used it a few years ago when I was on an elimination diet. It works very well but again, the price factor has to be considered.
