My Father-in-law just passed 5 days ago in a motorcycle accident. He did not have a will. There are 3 different insurance companies to pay family (car, motorcycle, and insurance of the person that pulled out infront of him), and that have paid for funeral costs. My husband wants to know since it is his step-father, will he be entitled to any of the money from the insurace companies. He does not want to discuss this with his mother. He does't think it's the right timing to do so. I'm looking for ANY advise, help, or answers to this. Thank you!

Megan25 I am sorry for your loss. The matter of the insurance payout has likely been concluded...however in the event that it is still pending: If we're talking strictly about the insurance on the motorcycle and the insurance of the person that pulled out in front of your father-in-law then the payout would go to insured and/or claimaint. That would be your mother-in-law.

If there are life insurance policies then of course whoever the beneficiary is that is who would receive the benefits.
