September will bring us a new season, and if it isn't already, the weather outside your home will be cooler and dryer. It's a perfect time to take your Yoga practice outdoors into the fresh air, or just open up the windows and bring the fresh air into your home. If nothing else is possible, choose brown or orange tee shirts or yoga pants, or light a candle with cinnamon or clove scent that will get you into the Fall Spirit!

One of the benefits of bringing your asanas and meditations closer to nature is that it has a very positive effect on your mental state and your overall level of stress goes down significantly. You'll feel refreshed; as if you've been "Fall Cleaning" your spirit!

I'd love to hear your ideas or plans about how to accomplish this!

Namaste, friends!

I would love to, but have discovered that my area has these horrible biting gnats! I can't do yoga outside until it gets to the 50s at night and hopefully kills them off.

Maybe I will try your ideas of brown shirts and candles until it cools off! (it's still 100 degrees during the day).

Jilly - maybe a natural scent will ward them off!

I'm reading that sodium lighting drives them away, they don't like the color.

Also try citronella, garlic, and cinnamon!

Our back porch is covered with plants right now - I will try to open up a space big enough for the yoga mat within them!

There's lots of things you can do. Music, items that remind you of Fall, etc.

Jill, try eating more garlic and/or lemongrass. Hopefully you like them so you can cook with them. But if not chop them up and swallow them w/a glass of water like they were vitamins. I do this with chopped garlic and ginger before I go to bed and it's great for tummy troubles or sinus issues & colds.

I'll be making a place on an outdoor deck that should be completed next month so I'll post pictures.

By the time I would have gone shopping (for garlic, a sodium light, or something) i would hope the nights would be cold enough to kill them off - i think the area only needs one 50 degree night to get there. Thursday night it's supposed to reach 52. So we shall see.

Nancy, I'd like to see your porch! Lisa you too!
