Even warm maple syrup over the vanilla ice cream would beat the heat!

I'll go for that!

Warming up my banjo here:

I got a girl in the Sourwood Mountain, hi ho didle oh day
She won't come and I won't call her, hi ho didle oh day
Hey, old man I want your daughter, hi ho didle oh day
Bake my bread and carry my water, hi ho didle oh day.

Rooster crow on the Sourwood Mountain, hi ho didle oh day
So many pretty girls I can't count them, hi ho didle oh day
Big girls love, the little ones spite you, hi ho didle oh day
Big dogs bark and little dogs bite you, hi ho didle oh day.

Sarra, Sarra, let's go walkin', hi ho didle oh day
Kiss me quick and stop your talkin', hi ho didle oh day
Sheriff, sheriff, can opposy, hi ho didle oh day
Someone stole my darling plossy, hi ho didle oh day..

Leapin' lizards! We don't need Granpappy a jumpin up and grabbin his 30 ot. I would not want to wake the Hatfields. They are fair to midlin' peaceable lessen the McCoys get riled up. Maybe we should wake the hounds and put them on duty then just sit roun' tellin' stories.

Time to start harvesting the rest of the corn and other vegetables. Granpappy is digging holes out back to store the potatoes in for the winter. He will put in a layer of straw, a layer of potatoes (they cannot touch each other), straw, potatoes, etc. till the hole is filled. The holes are about 2 feet deep. The top layer is straw and he places a few rocks on it to keep it from blowing away. When he finishes this, we will have taters all winter long.

My mother invited my sister and I over for supper last night. She had baked an apple pie and it was soooo good! We sat on the front porch after supper eating the pie and ice cream. It was just like the old days when we were kids and the family gathered on the front porch. So enjoyable.

Halloween is sneaking up fast on us. Walking down into the hollow and up the other side to visit folks is getting rather scary. Do you have any scary experiences when out late at this time of year?

Folks roun' here have some mighty scary tall tales to tell. What are some of your favorites?
