When I bought this place, one of the selling points was the nice cottage/studio in the backyard. It needs everything, really. I want it to be habitable for me as an art/yoga/reading studio. Right now it's only suitable as a place to do laundry.

Windows are missing and are either boarded up or have blankets over them.

The Dutch door needs work to be able to close and a piece of door window needs to go back in.

I have to get that huge pool table out of there to be able to use the space.

I'd like to add a utility sink. I bought one for 4 dollars used and need to have a handyman set up a greywater system for me.

I might need new drywall. I think the ceiling is ok.

I have to rip up the carpet. I think the cement on the floor is good and will just need to be sealed.

The main things - pool table out. Windows and door fixed. Utility sink/greywater added (to include laundry machine's water).

I'll track what is going on in this thread. I have a few handymen ready to help me, and even willing to work on my ideas of using salvaged materials. I just have to wait for my savings to plump up from the flatline they are at right now.

The pool table one sounds like the biggest issue since it fills up a bulk of the space. I thought you had someone who was willing to take it away for free? Maybe you can ask him again?

I am ambivalent about the pool table. I'd probably get 400-500 dollars for it if i sold it on craiglist. But I don't want to deal with people yet. So there it sits taking up the whole room. It's too heavy for me to even push against the wall, and I'm pretty strong. I cannot budge it a millimeter.

It's the right time of year to sell the pool table so you may want to keep it in mind.

With all the work you will be doing in your cottage, check to see if there is a second hand store in your location.....we have one that gets all kind of goodies for the home; windows, doors, screens, metal fences, etc.... you could save money if you are willing to check it out and recycle! Keep it green!

I have purchased many things from our local bone yard. keep us posted!!

Do you have before shots to share?

Maureen, I am super green. It's my whole life. Everything I am buying is used, salvage, found items or at least locally bought.

I am still stuck on the pool table thing.

Someone help me figure out what to even SAY about it on craigslist! I know nothing about pool. I just see people selling them for hundreds in this area.

Not one thing can happen until i get the pool table out. Actually i can get the windows fixed but since it's not cold here yet that is not a huge priority.

Find out these things-

Is it a regulation table? You need the size to post.

What color is the cloth on the table- red? green?

The pockets- are they net or a track?

Do you have the balls for the table? Other equipment?
