I think next summer it would be smartest to take my RV and scoot out of here. It's just too hot - over 100 degrees for two and a half months. [uij1qwe <--- my cat John wrote that. He must agree]
I have AC in the RV but since it's not insulated the AC has a very hard time keeping up with heat. So i have to barricade the windows with blankets and close off half of the vehicle (motorhome). I can't see outside or go outside. I get cabin fever. People are not supposed to be in the desert in an RV in the summer. They are supposed to be on the coast or in the mountains!
Also, the Cedar gnats are driving me nuts. It used to be i could relax in my patio in the evenings after it cooled off (until late June), but now I end up with itchy welts everywhere. They (the gnats) won't go away until we have some colder nights. Hopefully soon.
In any case, I want to start planning for next summer. I was thinking I'd like to garden and such but i don't want to have a third summer like this in a row.
Anyone travel to cool places in the summer?
I have a campground membership where I can stay free in lots of places. I am thinking to either pick Colorado, or travel up the west coast.
I could also incorporate some boondocking and go to the mts in Utah, Nevada, or visit the Sierras.
Where do other RVers go?

I vote for you heading up the west coast. check out Oregon and Washington State. There's several nice campground membership places in Washington. If you get a chance, visit the San Juan Islands.
Also, if you want to hover around in California there will be plenty of places to stay a little cooler at higher altitudes. There are some nice boondocking campgrounds near Sequoia National park in California. I would visit the Shasta/Trinity National Forest. Oh, and totally go to the Redwoods.
You will stay cool on the coast of Northern California, Oregon and Washington.
Tell your cat John I say hello and I wish him cool weather soon. I can't stand getting cabin fever inside the rig.

I absolutely melt in the heat - we had it 98F here today and it fried my brain! I have no idea how people survive in hot places. I am all for you escaping to the cool reaches in the summer

101 today. But the forcecast will drop into the 90s starting after the weekend - would be great if the big heat for 2010 is done.
Erin, the coast does sound wonderful - we will see what my situation is next year. I am glad I decided i will seek the coolness in the hotter months.
Making a decision in the first place is usually the hardest part. Now I just need to figure out how to set my life in place so this can happen smoothly.
Erin, John says Hi right back. He doesn't seem to mind the heat but my dog sure does.

Making those decisions are the hardest, aren't they? I swear, I am always scheming on what plans I should make. Where to spend the winter, what vacations to take, how much money can we afford. Or, should we save money and hunker down and brave another full Pacific NW winter. (not #1 on my list, it's dreary and cold up here during the winter months) Always trying to figure it out! So, I totally understand. The good part is, once you finally decide what you are going to do, the fun begins in the real planning.

It is looking like Dan will want to go to Oklahoma starting in March and setting up home there with his mom. So I can follow in my jeep, get things organized out there, and then come back for my RV. And take that to OK. Not that I want to be in OK but it would be nice to be with family. And then if it gets too hot in the summer I can head to Colorado, for example.
The trip out to OK can take as long as I like. A month if i feel like it. I just need to ensure i stay at parks with WiFi.
Hmmm. This could be fun - deciding what to see, where to go...
