In the old days, fragrances *were* all environmentally sound! You picked flowers from a meadow, and strung them in your hair smile Nowadays we tend to take a more artificial route.

What are some ways to help ensure your fragrance purchases are environmentally sound?

For example, can you recycle your perfume bottles? What do you do with room deodorizer spray bottles when they're empty?

If you order fragrances through eclecticlady.com, they come in recyclable plastic. Also you can order larger sizes and refill the smaller 2 ounce containers she sells. She is a green company.

Any perfume bought at Sephora or Whole Foods is free from animal testing. Lush, also, and they have fragrance solids that are sold in metal tins that are reusable and recyclable.

Lisa, don't forget in the old days they also killed animals for fragrances - musk glands and ambergris (whales).

We can now use alternatives to those!

I definitely like the idea of making your own fragrant bath salts, soaps, etc

We have rosemary on our back porch to make shampoo out of - maybe that will be our weekend project!

The fragrances you can buy at Nordstrums counters are also from cruelty free brands. And Sephora.

My favorites right now are from Sephora. I really love the DKNY Apple scents - the red apple (limited edition) and the green. I find the red apple is nicer in colder weather, since it is spicy. The green one is very clean and fresh and i love it for the warmer months.

You know I *still* haven't made that rosemary shampoo. And I really need to too. OK I'll put that on my list of things to do.

I do need to make some fresh smelly jellies too. It's spring!

I do like Jeanne's EclecticLady.com stuff for fragrances. I had a serious Violet scent addiction going for a few years. I still love it, but i think I am looking for a new scent to adore. I am really liking her Garden Mint and Cucumber Mint. Not at adoration levels, but close. smile

in the old days they also killed animals for fragrances - musk glands and ambergris (whales). I was unaware of this. I am an avid customer of Whole Foods for a few years. I have never thought of trying any of their fragrances but lately I have been more interested in the way I smell while trying to take an organic and environmentally sound approach. Thank you for the information about the online green friendly companies.
