I've read many places that eating from smaller dishes helps the brain think it's full with less food. With that in mind I used a soup cup rather than bowl for my morning cereal. Not sure if I feel satisfied because of the "brain thing" or because I've still got this nasty cold. I will keep this up and see where it goes.

I have done this, but went back for seconds frown
My brain says I'm still hungry, can't fool my brain into thinking I'm full, when I'm not

One serving of cereal is the size of a small coffee cup so you're doing the right thing. If that doesn't satisfy you then add a tablespoon of nuts and eat some fruit as well as a side of protein and you won't feel the need to have more than one serving of processed carbs.

Balance is the key to feeling satisified . grin

Drinking a big glass of water before and after also helps.

Its a challenge for me to always have to measure everything in such little portions.

By using smaller dishes there's less need to measure. Fill 1/2 the plate with veggies, 1/4 with carbs and 1/4 with protein. No measuring needed. I have to change the mindset that all meals need bread and butter. I was brought up that way and it's a hard habit to change.

Also...I've got to learn to eat slower. My fast paced life has fostered some very bad habits. Eating on the run is damaging to the digestive system as well as the waistline.

This is a picture of tonights dinner served on a smaller plate. So far so good. I'll have a couple of plums after I clean the kitchen. I cooked the porkchop in 1 tsp of olive oil, and put 1/2 diced cooked potato in the pan with it, so I have everthing cooked in 1 tsp healthy oil. The part of the plate where the food goes measures 6 1/2 inches. That's down from 9" of my regular dinner plates. This food would have been lost on my regular plate. Another point here, from start to finish it took 20 min to cook this dinner. Totally doable even after a hard days work. Oh yeah, I love pepper, can ya tell?

MMM, walkinggranny! Looks yummy!

Smaller plates and bowls work for me. After a while, my tummy shrunk so I could become satisfied with less. Now, if I overeat, I feel yucky. It took a short while to get here but it does work.
