I look forward to reading Dark Tide! I had heard about the molasses flood, and how for years afterwards the streets of Boston smelled of molasses when temps rose in summer.

I'm currently reading Legacy of Secrecy: The long Shadow of the JFK Assassination. It's pretty interesting in that it follows what mobsters as Santo Trafficante, Carlos Marcello, and Sam Giancana and others were doing at the time JFK was killed. Also their involvements with the CIA in attempts to murder Castro and how they might have exposed such murder plans to the public if they were prosecuted for any attempts on JFK's life. It's a blackmail story of epic proportions.

Hitler will have to wait. My Ancient Greece class has way too much reading assigned for me to dwell on him.

I started reading War and Peace several weeks ago and am just taking my time with it. I only read a few chapters a week to let it sink in since the book is so complicated with all the different families involved.

I know this is not considered a history book -- but, Tolstoy was excellent at providing actual historical facts in the book. I am learning a lot about the history of the Russian, French, and Austria war. Very interesting.

I would say that you could pull that into the history book discussion. Many fiction books represent historical facts and perceptions. A really good thing to do since it is fiction is to corroborate the information to make sure it accurate. Many times fiction writers will alter events or embellish them to meet their needs. Even if the facts are not totally right, it gets you learning more through your investigation.

Oh! Good. Thanks, Rebecca.

I would like to read "Civil War, a narrative: Fort Sumter to Perryville" I love Shelby Foote's voice. He is a really good narrator. I also love to read about the Civil War era.
