Hi everyone,
I am really new at sewing and wondered if you could help me with the basics of my machine?

Near where you thread there is a dial with numbers over the needle-what does that do?

I also have a dial with a zig zag pattern getting longer?

One with numbers one to five on the top of the machine
One which is numbered one to four and has ss on it?

Thanks in advance!

The dial over the needle is most likely the thread tension. Standard tension for straight stitching is around 3. The other dial is the stitch width for your zigzag stitch. The SS is your straight stitch and the higher numbers make a wider zigzag.

Welcome to sewing! Feel free to keep asking questions!
