I'm always stressing the importance of spinal health. It's the nerve center of the body and the source of so much of our energy (or sometimes lack of). When we stretch the muscles and spinal column itself, we are releasing tension and allowing our nervous system to function more efficiently.

With this pose, you also open the chest, and breathe in more deeply. Regular practice of Sphinx can make you breathe naturally in this manner and increase physical endurance.
