hi. :) i have a friend who does yoga at home. she noticed that her 3-year-old son imitates the poses that he sees when my friend does yoga. so my friend asked me to help her find out if kids at her son's age can do yoga. i did a bit of searching and found a short clip on youtube. it's called kidyogi. do you think it's a good idea for my friend to engage her son to yoga? it's actually my first time to see a yoga video for kids and i don't really know much about yoga. any help would be appreciated. thank you very much :)

When I was five years old I tried it watching my dad. He consulted with his instructor and he didn't allow me to do that till I was twelve years old. Some poses are not allowed for kids.

I've published Yoga for all Kids in ebook and softcover. It is a series of 15 moving poses that are adapted for kids. My background was as a classical ballet dancer, then teacher of rhythmic movement before falling into yoga at age 30. There are no poses that put pressure on the spine, no shoulder stand, no head stand. That is absolutely correct not to begin adult poses till age 12 when cartilage has hardened. Just like a ballet dancer shouldn't use toe shoes till age 12. Here is my article about the book at BellaOnline:

My daughter does a great video called, appropriately YogaKids.. the has the ABC one. A friend gave it to us as a gift and it's really cute.. lots of songs and some stories and principles of yoga and basic poses. I have a link to it in my article on Children and Television.
