We were talking about this in another thread - the idea of building a personal board of directors to coach and guide and help you out. Your cheerleading squad!

Who is on your board of directors? They can even be famous authors who "coach" you via their books!

My mother in law is always supportive, whereas my mom and hubby are often critical. I prefer total acceptance ( I am my own harshest critic, believe me) and therefore adore my MIL. So she's on it.

The Dalai Lama.

FlyLady is on my board.

A year or two ago I would have had Suze Orman on it, but she's lost me too much money, so she now gets the boot.

I have a nice group of friends who are on it - some of them are even editors here at BellaOnline! :-)

Some of my teachers from college.

Let me think about this some more. There are some people on Facebook and Twitter who would also count.

What a neat idea.

You can make a cardboard poster, or a virtual desktop poster, with your board of directors photos, so that you can really think about them helping you!

Then, when you have a question, you can sit in a quiet spot and imagine you were presenting the idea to them. Often just the act of laying out a scenario in an ordered way like that can help you realize solutions!

I wonder who would be on my imaginary board. I would want to have people who promoted peace and helping others, like the Dalai Lama and Jesus and Buddha. I would want JRR Tolkien because he created an intricate world where people banded together and found solutions. Plus he would be fun to talk with smile Katharine Hepburn, because she has a stick-with-it personality to overcome obstacles. Jane Austen because she sees into peoples' personalities and finds gentle acceptance of them.

Great, yes Buddha and Jesus also, and Tolkien. I think also Jefferson and Edison and Einstein. Can I have Jean-Luc Picard? Gandalf and Valentine Michael Smith from Stranger in a Strange Land.

Also my dog Frodo. He's the best listener and loves me more than anyone on the planet.

I love Stranger in a Strange Land. Almost checked it out of the library a few weeks ago to re-read because who knows where my copy went. Lost to the 80's I suppose.

Deb - you could get the audio book version and listen to it while you walk!

Jilly - of course you can have Jean-Luc Picard! He's a great idea! Gandalf would blow cool smoke rings for you smile

Excellent topic. Years ago, I read a More magazine article about assembling a personal board of directors. I'm sure my board back then looked different than the one I have now.

Back then I would have probably listed scholars, historians and feminist thinkers. But right now I'd list people like Martin Seligman author of Authentic Happiness. Ekhert Tolle. Lena Nozizwe, author of Starring in Your Own life...and so on. All people who can guide me toward achieving my goals!

I might want Lance Armstrong also. And Ghandi.

Weirdly, I might even want House on my board. he's at least never boring. smile Wilson too.

And Giles, the Watcher, from Buffy.

House would come up with the off-the-wall ideas that would save you! That sounds great!

You could make a vision board with them all on it, to hang in a spot in your yoga room. That way if you felt stressed, you could go stand in front of it and ask them "What should I do?"

OOOOh! LOVE IT. That is a fantastic idea. I even have a magazine page with House in it. Just have to find everyone else...
