Beloved horse racing author Dick Francis died Sunday, February 14 in the Cayman Islands where he has a home. He was 89. His early years were spent as a fighter and bomber pilot with the Royal Air Force during WW II. Then he spent 10 years as a champion steeplechase jockey, most notably riding for the Queen Mother.

I was a huge fan of his mysteries in his early years of writing, after he retired from jockeying. His final book will come out later this year.
