Just planning the container gardening. I'm looking for ideas on what to use for pots that will work better than I had last year. This is a great time to plan, we're going to get more snow. So, I'll curl up with a gardening magazine and a cup of hot cocoa.

Well, I emptied out two pots and washed them. I still have a few more to do but it won't be this weekend. I need to stay home some and do some work.

Hi Angie, I have a rock garden that goes all along my privacy fence. I put all of my plants in pretty stylefoam pots that are decorative. This way I can move them around as the hot Houston, TX sun grows more intense. I love to grow plants and flowers in the pots out back. It sounds like you will be getting busy before long. I've been out doing yard work for a couple of weeks now.

We have gone from spring to summer - perhaps it will cool down a bit.

What are stylefoam pots?

I have some shade and plenty of sun and plenty of deer so I have to be careful about what I plant. With my new grandson's arrival (March 23), getting ready for Easter, and some other 'volunteer' duties, I haven't had much time to do much of anything -

My husband did clean up an area that I had hoped to make into a little patio area and we trimmed back the rose bushes drastically so it looks much better now. I need to get my pots on the deck ready for planting. I began the task of emptying them and cleaning them but have not finished. I left one on the deck all winter and with the freeze/thaw/freeze, it exploded. Shame on me. It was a cute pot too.

What types of plants do you have in your rock garden?

I have from palms, lillies, foxtails, china dolls, jamine to begonias. I love my flowers and bushes. We just cleaned out the rock garden this past weekend. We blew it out real good. We took all the planters out and after we were done, put them all back in. I can tell you, by the end of the day, I knew I had done some work. So we showered and went out to our favorite mexican restarant, had a margarita and ate. What kind of plants do you plant?

I had begonias, geraniums, petunias, tomatoes, eggplant, and tried some heather.

I cleaned out some of my planters today and need to get some additional ones. Next trip out I need to pick up potting soil and some plants. I ordered some through work - a fundraiser so I'll just get things ready; plant those items; and get my vegetables going. I need a different variety of tomato this year as the pot, though large, was not large enough to accommodate my better boy. I need a patio tomato; I don't want cherry tomatoes.

I'll also experiment with some things in the yard but with the number of deer we have, that venture is a bit difficult.

Hi Angie,
Sounds like you have been as busy as me. I remember my dad use to plant better boy tomatoes. You are going to be busy. I just cleaned out my flower beds in the front of the house and put in new mulch yesterday. Have to make a trip to get some new pots. I just love the springtime, but along with it comes a lot of work, but I enjoy it.

I haven't done that kind of gardening in years. Last year I started some container gardening (too many deer in the yard for a regular garden). I need a smaller tomato that will survive and produce in a pot but I do not like cherry tomatoes.

Eggplant worked somewhat. Tomorrow if I can I plan to go to the nursery for some plants. One of my friends has some heirloom tomatoes but they did not produce well.

I know deers can be a problem. We don't have any deers here in the neighborhood since we have privacy fences. I got out and bought some new containers over the weekend. I hope you find the tomatoes you are looking for. Oh, I love eggplant. Now, just to plant in the pots. It rained all day yesterday, and now its to wet to do anything outside as far as planting goes.

Well, one of my relative saved his gardens from deer with a nice trick. He planted daffodils around the garden. he said that the foliage prevents deers and bunnies.

Sarina, I've never heard of daffodils keeping deers and rabbits out, but it is sure nice to know.I learn something new every day.

deer do not bother the daffodils. The only problem would be that they bloom in early spring and then disappear the rest of the season.
