I thought that I would start this thread so that we could share books. What are you reading? Would you recommend it? (If not, why?) Also, let us know about books that you have heard of that sounded good. I'm always looking for new books to review. Blessings!
As an added note: Periodically, I will be deleting my earlier comments in an effort to keep the thread short

I've not read any of her books, but I am familiar with some of her husband's books. I'd be interested in hearing your impressions when you finish it!

Isn't that his latest movie too? Have you seen the movie? If so, how do you think it compares to the book?

I'm sure it's interesting Farjana. Most people don't realize that the Congo is often referred to as the second lung of the earth. Deforestation of their land will have a global impact.

Right you are. In the beginning, introduction of African Culture (Almost all tribal culture) has drawn very beautifully. I'll discuss more after completing it.

Lyn, I just got the book REWORK by Jason Fried and David H. Hansson, and I read the whole book this afternoon! Extremely motivating for anyone trying to be in business for themselves, no matter their level of experience. For me, well let me just say there are sticky notes bristling from the margins all through the book.

I just finished Ransomed Dreams by Sally John, a fantastic book. Romance, but really realistic. Now that I have been married for a few years, I get annoyed with the fairy tale, cliche, love at first site stuff. Anyways, you can check out what I thought on my book review site

I am reading LoneStar Sanctuary by Colleen Coble. I am only a few chapters in. I like the suspense that the writer has in her other novels, and how the characters really go through outward trials - not just internal arcs.

Thanks Lisa!
I looked it up on Amazon and see that it is the first book in a series. Admitably, I am partial to all things Texan, but this book sounds really good.
Thanks for sharing!

I am still working on Lonestar Sanctuary - I am not as into this book as I got into the authors other works. I started Tell Me Everything by Marling Meberg - lots of stuff in this book, written in the casual style of most Women of Faith books, but Meberg is touching on some really deep stuff so far.

Meberg is an inspired writer. I read an excerpt and the book sounded very interesting. I'm sorry to hear Lonestar Sanctuary isn't living up to your expectations.

I love all the Women of Faith authors. This week I am excited to be reading a Christian fiction book. I receive a lot of books for review for the Christian Living site but very few fiction. This week's book is "Mercy Land" by the author River Jordan. I was kind of intrigued by the book title and the name of the author.

I highly recommend the book "Letters From a Distant Shore" by Marie Lawson Fiala. It is a true story of the medical, emotional and spiritual journey the author and her family experience after her 13 year old son suffers a massive cerebral hemorrhage. It is emotional but also very inspirational. My review will be featured on the 18th of Sept.

The Confident Woman - How to take charge and recharge your life. By Marjorie Hansen Shaevitz
It talks about issues women face as they grow up and how to deal with lack of confidence and how women are seen in a man's world. It is quite funny sometimes and there are lots of little quotes.
Not huffy or stuffy, not tiny or tall, But fluffy, just fluffy, with no brains at all.
Sir Alan Patrick Herbert (1890-1971) I Like Them Fluffy
Could apply to a few men I know he he!
Peace and God Bless

Hi I'm the former Child Loss editor here at Bellaonline and just wanted to share a link to the video promo (see below) I have for the book I wrote about my son - "Craig The Boy Who Lives" (Gill&Macmillan, 2011). It is out on Feb 4th and will be available on amazon so I hope some of you out there will have a look at it.

I was recently asked if I'd like to interview Matt Baglio, author of The Rite, so I'm reading The Rite.
The book is the basis for the new Anthony Hopkins movie due in theaters Friday, January 28th.
Look for the upcoming review and interview with Matt!

This week I am reading Pursuit of Happiness by Sheldon Greene. There will be a review on this piece of historical fiction on the Fiction Writing site soon, as well as an interview with the author.

I'm interested in reading the book, but even though I love Hopkins and this particular topic, I'm worried the movie will be just too stereotypical. How did your interview go? Where will it be published? Would you recommend the book? Did you see the movie? What did you think?
Thanks -- looking forward to your response.

Hi Jem,
The interview and review posted today here at BellaOnline. Matt Baglio is very engaging, and I was glad to have had the opportunity to interview him.
Despite having planned to see the movie before posting the review, I haven't seen it yet. Friends said it was good. One of the questions I asked Matt was whether the movie perpetuated Hollywood stereotypes of exorcism (The Exorcist, the Exorcism of Emily Rose, etc). He said he felt the movie addressed exorcism in a realistic manner.
I liked the book. I think I was expecting more of a story, and was pleasantly surprised after reading it that it was not. Matt conducted extensive research and approached the project like the good journalist that he is. The book did not sensationalize the topic nor did it "dumb-it-down." I learned some things along the way.

April....I haven't read any of those. We had to read something by Rosamunde Pilcher in college but I don't remember what it was.
Lisa....I read all but the last book.

Hmm... did you really mean, "What are you reading this week?" or "what are you reading this week that falls under the category of Christian Literature?"
If you meant the former, I just finished the Steve Jobs biography and had begun, though not entirely sure I'll continue on, "Catch Me If You Can" (yes, the book, not the movie).
Now if you meant the latter question, well.... then I guess I need to stop following Post Titles from the "Brand New Posts" section of Bella Online. I kind of like doing so though because it often brings me to sections of the forum I would never plan to visit where I meet all kinds of interesting people.

No, I really do mean what are you reading this week. As Christians, we need to be open to reading secular works as well. Some are poignant works with valuable lessons.
Thanks for sharing!
