I'm not vegan but I definitely don't buy meat that's factory farmed. Not only is not humane it is just so bad for you.
All factory animals are fed grains or remains of other animals so they are full of e-coli from being on inadequate diets and shot up with all kinds of hormones to kill the bacteria.
They wallow in their own filth all day long, many of them end up unable to walk but are still pushed with tractors to the slaughtering area. They are covered in filth when they are slaughtered and the feces ends up on the meat which means this meat is bathed in chlorine and other disgusting chemicals to clean it up.
The you've got all the run off from the factories which ends up in our water. Factory farming only cares about profits and not about quality food.
They even exploit workers a few poor folks from the south but mostly illegals from other countries. Big companies make deals with the INS (most people are totally unaware of this). They are allowed to import many illegals to work in horrible conditions as long as they allow for fake raids and deportations every so many days. Most people are clueless about the abuse factory farming imposes on workers. It's not just the animals.
The only type of meats I buy are organic grass fed animals. They are much more expensive so that means I eat less of it and focus more on plant foods, beans, and healthy grains (all organic too).
People really need to wake up to this reality. It's why so many people are overweight, sick, and depressed. I think movies like Food Inc. are making a difference.
