What makes you feel alive? Is it listening to your favorite music? Or is it going on a beautiful hike on a nice summer day?

For me, writing, singing and taking walks in a park rejuvenate me and make me feel alive again after a long day.

Please visit the Philosophy home page for this weeks new article What Makes You Feel Alive?

Share your mind on what truly makes you feel alive. I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

Loving thoughts to all. smile

I was feeling a bit disconnected this morning and came across this beautiful article from Phyllis at the Native American site Ancestral Lands Of Woven Tapestry.

...just came back from a nice short walk in the park... after hugging a few trees and watching a puppy play with its owner, I feel a lot better. Sometimes hugging trees is just as good as singing for me!

Cara, you are such a gentle, loving soul! Thank you for the kind words and for referring to my article. Writing about and being in Nature makes me feel alive inside. What a great question to ask - to make one ponder on. Thank you.

And what a great article! If I may quote you:

Feeling alive is a sense that we are embraced by joy and hope.

What a lovely thought to keep in mind.

Great thoughts! We should move through each day with the feeling of being alive. What joy! I needed this reminder.

What makes me feel alive? Nature, definitely. My spirit feels as though it melts into the Universal energy. A oneness. Even though my personal identity is muted, there is an exhilarating sense of being a part of the ALL and I can experience everything through everything.

I love that you feel the way you do, Cara, because I know that there are others who are moved by the simple acts of life. The other night, I watched a show about John Muir who wrote in his journal that he often walked and sat on rocks and asked them from where they came and to where they were going.

I am so glad that there are others who talk to rocks. And hug trees! smile

Don't you feel the heartbeat of the Universe when you do?

Oh, other things besides Nature that make me feel alive:

Breathing freely and deeply.
Swimming through the ocean or clean water.
Listening to beautiful music.
Hearing children's laughter.
Offering or hearing a prayer.
Watching the goodness come out of ordinary people when they are kind to one another.
Holding a little baby. Human or not.

The list goes on...

Yes! I do.
And yes, I am so glad that I am not alone in the tree hugging activity.
When I was younger, I used to worry about people looking at me.
But now, I feel the freedom to hug any trees!... well, expect for the spiky ones.

I came across a type of short palm tree the other day, and decided that I could not hug it. It was just way too spiky after its trimming.

"Love shouldn't hurt!" I said to my friend. laugh LOL!

I sent it good thoughts instead.

Thanks for the great list. Watching kindness in action always brings so much warmth to my heart... and Yes, animal babies are so adorable. When I get sad, I google baby animal images. How can someone not feel good after seeing a few of them? smile

Cara, Great question and article. I love Chi's list too, and think many of the things she mentioned also make me feel alive. Being in nature, playing with my kids, and meditation would top my list I think...
