For the past two and a half days I've eaten pretty much nothing but fast food and trail mix, and it is amazing how sick of it I am already. I'm not even eating "too badly" - one lunch was a tuna sub at Subway (they don't have the wraps any more). Another evening it was trail mix without eating the chocolate parts (so peanuts, cashews, raisins and so on). Lots of water, no soda. Even so, I was absolutely craving "real food" and finally sat down and had some.

Do you ever get into a situation where you are eating sequential fast food - because you're traveling or something else - and how do you feel when you're eating that way?

Hi Lisa,
It happens a lot when the family gets busy...a lot of activities and we are too busy to cook - either no time or it's too late in the night. So we go through periods where we eat pizza, burgers...chinese food...etc... I agree, there comes a time when I just get sick of fast food and take out and look forward to a nice home cooked meal.

There must be a way, though, to choose pick-up-at-restaurant food which is healthy for us! Is it that we choose the bad choices at the available restaurants?

There is...and there are some books - "Eat this...not that" But what I seem to find is that "healthy" is never fast...or maybe it's because I like the cheese and the sour cream...etc...
So when I'm running...I choose the tastiest thing on the menu - WAY WRONG CHOICE everytime....lol...

One thing worth doing is having the Subway people take the bread out of the center of the rolls. It makes it more like a wrap, and then if you choose the wheat type options you get some decent fiber. Then if you load up on veggies and choose something like tuna fish, you've got a healthy meal.

I have also heard there is a new healthy food area on the taco bell menu.

Whenever we're on a road trip, we tire quickly of fast food. It's funny how refreshing and delicious fresh fruit tastes on those trips. I pack some fresh fruit--grapes, apples, peaches, pears, bananas--along with some nuts and cheese. We love to snack on these foods. Whole, natural. We get so sick of processed foods on the road. But they're quick and cheap. *shrug*

Whenever i need fast and easy for lunch, I choose Jimmy Johns. It's a gormet sub place. They have a healthy 12 grain bread that is slices, or their italian bread and i have them take the middles out of the bread so it's less bread like Jilly said. I skip the cheeese and add things like cucs, avacado, sprouts, and tomatoes for nice flavor.

They even have skinny chips which are their low salt, low fat, less starchy since they are not kettle chips.

I've never thought of removing the bread middles, that is a fantastic idea you two!

I had Subway when we were out on our trip in Canada twice because that seemed the healthiest option. I had tuna fish one time, and turkey the other time. I do feel that's a relatively healthy choice, and isn't a "bad meal". I had water with them.

If we can actually sit down (we were eating these in the car) then many of the fast food restaurants have tasty salads which are very good for you. So it depends on *how* fast you have to eat smile

Even McDonalds has good salads now.

Arbys has an amazing chicken salad wrap with grapes and walnuts in it.

And I know some fast food places offer chicken breasts.

I love Wendy's salads, and yes, McDonalds has a great one too. So you definitely can get very tasty, healthy things if you make that choice!

I do also agree that you can easily bring food from home too - which is cheaper smile
