New York Pet Rescue, a fabulous NYS organization of volunteers who rescue, provide medical care for, and find homes for abandoned animals (

Appalachia Service Project, a nationwide group of teens and their adult chaperones who travel to desperate parts of Appalachia every summer to repair homes. My sons travel with chapter from Katonah, NY. They have to raise the funds themselves to cover the cost of the trip. The work is hard, the weather is HOT, the accomodations are bare bones, but they go back every year. They have learned the priceless value of giving to strangers and receiving their gratitude.
