Why do Christians claim that Jesus is the long-foretold Messiah? We are confident He is the One because Jesus fulfilled almost three hundred Old Testament prophecies, written hundreds and even thousands of years before his birth. I've described a few of them in Christmas Prophecies. There are many, many more. Have any favorites?

My favorite it Jeremiah 23:5
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land."

And one of my very favorite Christmas carols is "O Come, O Come Emmanuel". I think it is one of the most beautiful in music AND words.

And my favorite carols include "Carol of the Bells" -- the Mormon Tabernacle Choir does a knock-your-socks-off arrangement, and "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" for sheer spooky thrills of anticipation in the words and music. Lots of other great carols--at our church we have 'all request Sunday' for our congregational singing every week, and sometimes people pick Christmas carols in July. That really makes you pay attention to the words!

For Christmas Scriptures, just give me the whole of Handel's Messiah. Too delicious.
