Great article and very informative, Jeanne. It is really scary and archaic to think this legislation is even being considered.

This is a terrible terrible thing if this passes. Homosexuality is already illegal in Uganda. As the law stands right now, people have to practically be caught in the act in order to be prosecuted and the punishment isn't as severe as what is in this current bill. So the claim is they are simply tightening up the law to more easily prosecute people.

It always scares me when a group of people are singled out and rounded up for whatever reason.

Interestingly, South Africa legalized gay marriage in December 2006. They are the first African country to do so.

It is hard to believe that this kind of thing, this horrible discrimination and life-threatening law is possible in today's world.

I was doing some more reading on this subject. Ugandans are saying the westerners should stay out of it and let them keep their traditional morals, etc. Interestingly enough, they seem to have forgotten that their "traditional morals" were imported from the west. In fact, homosexual activity was not frowned upon until the missionaries began their work in Africa.
