Thank you so much for that article (and your many other good ones). One day I read yet another article, about his celebrating his 23rd birthday. Having a 23 y.o. myself that was when it really, really hit me. I do remember him every day by name when praying, but I did something a bit more concrete that day.

I had a (young) friend pass away at the beginning of the summer. I think about her parents - her husband - and her daughters (one was two weeks old when she died) all the time.

When I saw the news about Gilad's video - it crushed me. I cannot imagine the agony of his parents each and every day... as well as the hope they must muster to get through this.

There is an interesting article in which an independent Israeli group expresses their views about the negotiations aimed at exchanging Gilad Shalit. Even if you disagree with their views, I hope that this post won't be deleted.

I'm a bit nervous about opening the link but I've heard about this, even if not that group, there is a strong halachic reason to oppose the negotiations. (You can read about a 12th[?] century rabbi, the Maharam of Rothenburg who was kidnapped and refused to be ransomed so as not to set a precedent of hardship on communities.) OTOH, there are legit. reasons to negotiate.

Noone's asking me. All I can do is continue to pray for Gilad ben Aviva, especially at the appropriate times in prayer (e.g. mention of the words Matir Assurim, the One Who frees the imprisoned).
