It's really pretty scary - he's almost 7,000 feet up in a small homemade balloon basket!!

Boy Floats Away

How do you rescue a person in a balloon?

omg that really is a problem! helicopters come to mind here - they're the best thing really for unpredictable airborne maneovres - but they do need to find where the balloon is! The poor kid's parents must be pretty upset and worried too.

Apparently news helicopters are following the balloon (go figure) so they know where it is. The problem is how to get it down, if it's 7,000 feet up.

According to TV reports, they are still doing a ground search, and have already searched the house.

It sounds like they were going to try and add weights to the balloon from the air, but not sure how that works (or would have worked)?

Has anyone heard of this happening before with any type of balloon, such as a hot air type?

MSNBC is reporting that he was found alive in a box located in his garage attic! smile

Edited to add: How did they not search the garage attic the first time around? I know there was panic about him being in the air, but when they searched the house, why did they not search obvious hiding places, such as the garage attic?

Trouble for sure!! He created a world-wide hunt for him!

I was thinking during the event that we all pay such attention to a "balloon boy" - but think of the kids that go missing every day that are ignored! What if we had this kind of a media frenzy for every missing child, surely we'd find more of them?
