If you have long hair, it is so easy to pull it up into a ponytail. Do you wear it that way because it's easy and you don't have to 'do' your hair?

I wear my hair in a ponytail just about everyday. Why? Because when I go out to racewalk and jog it is kept out of my face and off my neck. Also because it annoys me if I leave it hanging down all the time.

Yeah I do the ponytail every day. I am kinda lazy about my hair,to be honest, but am enjoying having it really long, for the first time since young childhood.

It is really nice to wear a ponytail. Since this is the first time in YEARS that I've had long hair, I make it a point to wear it down - in a style - at least two thirds of the time.

I cook in a restaurant, so I HAVE to keep my hair up...hence I wear it either in a pony tail or a long clip. If I keep my hair in a ponytail too long, I get a headache.

Hi Michelle,
I'm happy to have you participate in the Hair forum. I've heard others say that they get headaches from ponytails - especially if their hair is heavy or the ponytail is tight.

I can only agree on the headache problem. It does help to loosen the hair band somewhat, but then you run the risk of the band slipping off completely. Even with clamps the same problems have been reported by some friends of mine. It just depends on how tight you pull the hair and how sensitive you (or your scalp) are.

Guess what? I give massages and reiki. More info here!

The only way I can wear a loose ponytail is when my hair is curly (it is thick enough and textured enough to hold the band on) or when I do a messy ponytail as described at the bottom of this article

I have fine hair, so I do try to keep my band as comfortable as I can without it sliding off, as well as, deter myself from getting a headache. When I'm at home I wear it down mostly...unless it gets in my way-then I just use a big clip and pin it up loosly.

I simply want my hair long just to wear a ponytail. Especially during warm days, my hair is up to a ponytail from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep.

My daughter loves ponytails, but I am having her be very careful about wering them too tight or too often - as there is a type of baldness associated with wearing your hair n ponytails too much.

What is that called Lynne? I know there has to be a name for it other than "ponytail baldness:!

grin I love the term ponytail baldness! It is called traction alopecia. Too much stress on those hair follicles and pretty soon they don't grow more hair.

When my hair is past my shoulders every day but only in the house. It has not been past my shoulders in more than three years so I haven't worn a ponytail since then. Now it is touching my shoulders and I plan on letting it grow until at least the start of December so I'll start wearing ponytails soon again.
