I am a college Learning Specialist and also raised a son with LD/ADD who graduated college successfully. Much to my dismay, the postsecondary success rate of our kids is dismal - very often because parents don't realize how prepared these students must be. It is NOT like selecting a college for a non-disabled teen. The fit has to be as good as possible, strong academic support must be available, and the student has to learn how to sensibly navigate (they unwittingly make mistakes that sabotage their progress)the college system.
As a result of witnessing so many failures of competent, motivated, otherwise-qualified students, I started a free e-list for parents of high school kids with LD to help them deal with transition. If you wish to subscribe let me know.
