I heard in the great State of ILL, the tax on a bottle of wine will be as much as 87% and that will also apply to sparkling wine too! That's crazy!

All the more reason to get into a wine club (out of my state)

Here in Indiana we have paid the regular sales tax on wine in the bottle since the tax was instituted. I was amazed when in Massachusetts this summer to learn that they did not collect sales tax on wine...until they raised the sales tax in August and extended it to wine and spirits. There was a HUGE run on the package stores at the end of July!
If IL goes to such a high tax I can see lots of people driving across the state lines to stock up, but I seem to remember reading that it is illegal to carry more than a case or so of alcohol in your car.

Sad news !

I do not know enough about the laws involved in buying from out of state. I thought some states make the seller pay the tax if they want to ship to that state.

Here in Europe we have a longhistory of crossing borders to buy where taxes are cheaper. The Swedes cross to Denmark to buy beer and wine. The Danes cross to Germany to buy beer made in Denmark, the Germans and the Brits go to France to buy beer and wine.
