Which do you prefer to crochet with, yarn or string? When I first began to crochet, I loved doing all the string patterns: doilies, placemats, snowflakes, and even a pineapple tablecloth. I still love to work with string! (I'm making a shawl right now.) I enjoy using yarn as well, although I've found that I prefer to work in sections, like Mile-a-Minute or block pattern afghans. Working in sections makes it easier to take places and crochet-on-the-go. I just finished making a scrap afghan based on the quilt block pattern, Nine Patch. Next I'd like to design one based on the Garden Path quilt block pattern. How about the rest of you? Do you prefer working with yarn or string? ~Kelly H.

I've done both and enjoy them both equally. Different items lend themselves better to one or the other, usually; so it depends on the project I'm working on.

I've done both but consider string to be used for making doillies, fillet crochet for a tabel cloth or curtains. Yarn to make afghans, sweaters, scarfs and anything else associated with yarn. Afriend of min erecently gave me a giant spool of string and all I can think of is tying packages as in the olden days. I guess I am supposed to make dish clothes.

I've found that I prefer working with yarn in the cooler months, and string in the warmer months. For those who work with both, do you find that as well?

I love working with yarns. I do love making snowflakes and other ornaments out of the string, I am also a fan of filet crochet...I love watching the pictures come alive.
