I've been a journalist off and on for years. However, I was thinking recently and realized I haven't journaled since I was undergoing chemo-radiation 6 years ago! yikes -- I think my journal would say I'm dead LOL.

I agree that pens make the difference. I like "fat" pens, those that don't make me cramp easily. I also like smooth flowing ink. I'm not particularly fond of very thin lines, I like mine where I can see 'em (I'm getting old, I like definition LOL).

As for color, sometimes I like black, sometimes blue, sometimes any color of the rainbow, except red. I love gel pens, but their ink runs out far too quickly to suit me. Good ol' ball point pens are great

Sara - that's interesting - my colored pens haven't run out of ink yet. I'm curious how long they'll last - do they run out in a matter of weeks?

It is great that you're doing well apparently after the chemo!

It's been a while since I let one run out, but I remember it was much quicker than regular pens. I still have two (hot pink and orange) that I'm "nursing" along smile I use them to make editorial comments/changes in my writing (not journalizing though).

So far my pens haven't run out but I tend to switch them daily. I usually use either dark blue, purple or green. Occasionally I'll use one of the lighter colors though. I'll rarely use black, interesting! If I realize I've grabbed the same color as the previous day usually I'll switch - I like seeing the different days in different colors.

OK Bob on March 18th got me a rainbow of colors for my squishy pens. I still ADORE those squishy pens, they are just so amazingly comfortable. It is incredible the difference in how I can write with them.

However, I just ran out of purple and dark blue and am almost out of green! I write randomly in one color each day and only for a page or two. So they definitely do not last long. Still, to me it's worth it because it is so much easier to write.

That being said, I can't find refills for these things. I just bought another "rainbow set" to get new inks. Which leaves me with empty hollow pen cases which I can't bring myself to throw away. Anybody know a recycling method for these? Can I donate these pen cases to someone who then buys cheap ink to fill them with?

Hello! I am new here, and this is my first post! I'm not new to journal-writing, however... I think I have used every kind of writing implement imaginable! One trick I started doing was to change my pen type if I hit a block or a place where I was having a hard time writing. You'd be surprised how that can help! Going from a ballpoint pen to a rollerball for instance. Alas, writing in longhand just got too hard for me so I now do my writing on my computer. And when I need a change, instead of changing pens, I'll change fonts, or make a new template- I always design my own!
