Every July I run my credit reports to ensure they are accurate and doing well. The US government site that manages this is

AnnualCreditReport.com

It is the only government monitored one - the others you see commercials for are all for-profit entities that try to get you to sign up for items along the way.

I highly recommend you all run your reports once a year to check for issues!

One more helpful hint:

Since there are 3 agencies, you may request a Credit Report once a year from each of them. If you time it right, you can get one report every 4 months, thus keeping a close watch year round.

For example, you request Trans Union every July 1, Experian every Nov. 1, and Equifax every March 1.

Carolyn, that is a really good idea.

The scores are nice, but I have a hard time remembering to cancel those memberships in time, then I just feel bad for wasting money.

WellsFargo has been advertising that you can get a free credit report from them if you bank with them here in Alaska. It's a big ad campaign that started when our pfd checks were sent out.
I think its an odd ploy. Don't most people know already you can get your report for free once a year without having to commit to a particular bank?

Shoot I could have sworn I did this recently but looking in my directories I think the last time I did it was in 2010!! Yikes! And my nephew just realized, by looking at his credit report, that someone had bought a HOUSE AND A CAR in his name.

OK I have now run all three credit reports - for free - and all look fine. That's good!

I also have clearly made an entry on my yearly calendar so I'm sure to do it next year at this time.
