I don't know the painting, but it's got to be Andrew Wyeth. Always been one of my favourites. Two years ago the Dulwich Picture Gallery in south London had a Wyeth exhibition - it was of the three generations of Wyeths. I enjoyed it, but was disappointed that there was so little of Andrew.

You must be right Mona, it is so his style.............an empty weather beaten house, bleak but which is just filled somehow with energy and emotion.

Visited the Wyeth Museum in Pennsylvania long ago, and at the time there were some of his drybrush paintings on exhibition. Gosh, wish I could have bought back more than a post card.

And I think it was the same traveling exhibition you saw which was featured in the Mona Bismarck American Center for Art and Culture in Paris this winter. It had very little Andrew Wyeth.

Imagine there must be some of his work in Germany, but don't know where.

And the muted colours too, that's very Wyeth.

Long ago the Bostom Museum of Fine Arts had a wonderful display of the Wyeths with lots and lots of Andrew's work. It was really something. I haven't been to Boston in a long time, but I looked on their website and they don't seem to have much now.

Mona, you are correct. It is Andrew Wyeth's "The Mill."

We are having the Bellaonline gathering in Boston on Oct 19-21.

Since I visited London last year, why don't you fly here for the

weekend and I'll personally take you to the MFA?

Francine, you're invited also.

The Currier Museum in NH has a wonderful Wyeth landscape, "Spindrift" (1950).

This is a poweful photograph by an African American.

Do you know the artist and the title?

Hint: the title is the same as a famous painting by American Grant Wood.

Since no one guessed, I'll answer the question.

The photographer is Gordon Parks and the painting is called

"American Gothic."

Does anyone want to take a guess at the artist?

It is Joan Miro's - L'espoir, The Hope, Camille. Love so much of Miro's work, even though "modern art" is not really my thing.

And how super it would have been to have been able to taken up your offer for a guided tour around the Boston Museum of Fine Arts....which I have only just read - sorry.

Thanks for the idea, what an experience that would be, it is a treasure trove and to have an expert as a guide. Ah well, another time perhaps. smile
