A friend of mine just lent me Rodney Yee's DVD of Energy Balance Yoga tonight. I took it right out onto the back porch. It is supposed to be an "all day" yoga exercise - i.e. giving you five segments, each for a certain time of day. As I got home at 10pm I dove right to Surrender, part 5.
He is lying by a beach. That is it. The water comes in and out, he talks a bit, and 4:07 later it is done. I am not sure I would call that an exercise
That is his "ether" segment.
So I went backwards to the "air" segment called Reflection. This is 10:32 and is better. It is all seated and involves forward bends. Forward bend over straight legs, forward bend over bent legs, and so on. Very relaxing. He and a woman are sitting on grass by an ocean. There is very little chatter. I liked it, but after those two sessions I still did my full regular session because I didn't feel I got much of a "workout" with these.
Then I watched the 2:13 intro which is really a "yoga is good for you" talk, and then his actual interview where he talks about yoga making him a good person. Those are nice enough things to include for someone new to yoga. I didn't get a lot out of either one.
Also, my laptop normally plays DVDs fine but this one was flashing pixelated "garbage" at me sometimes. Very odd.
So that leaves three segments for me to try -
earth / awakening 9:24
water / centering 6:49
fire / creativity 14:56
I'll write those up soon. I didn't like that they go "silently" from section 4 to 5 so suddenly you notice he's lying on his back and you have to move around. Also you're relaxed on your back at the end and then suddenly BOOM it's in the credits. I like relaxation segments that just *end*. The credits can be elsewhere.
