Connie, I have a yucca bed with all kinds of succulents and drought tolerant plants. My question is this, do yuccas need any time of fertilizer? Also, do you have a remedy for this? I've used gravel as my mulch but weeds are a mess to clean up this way and they sprout every week here in Texas it seems. Please help. I love your site. Very informative.

Hi, Have you tried Preen? It prevents weed seeds for germinating. I don't know how or if you garden organiclly and don't use chemicals, but it does work. Also there is cacti and succulent fertilizer for sale made by Schultz. You should be able to find that at places that sell succulent plants.

Preen is made from corn so I think it's "organic". Works for me! Question: Are there succulents that have sturdy roots to help with run-off on a slightly sloping bed below a sidewalk that gets watered? (Not on purpose - we can't adjust to prevent some run-off.) We recently installed a garden for butterflies at our church and need low ground covers or a non-floating mulch to stop loss of soil. Having a dump of almost our entire expected rainfall til now within two weeks after planting has not helped! Becky
