Click on the above link to see this painting by a German master. I cannot find anywhere in the site who this painter was. Does anyone know? I am not familiar with this painting or the style.

He is called "The Master of the ...painting" which means that nobody knows what his name was. You can be sure that if the German National Museum does't know, then his name did not survive down through the centuries. Which is not unusual when you consider all that has happened in Germany since the 1400's. It is a minor miracle that the painting itself has survived. The style is typical for northern European painting of that time.

That is really interesting, Claybird. Thanks. It is really a shame that the names did not survive. I noticed others at the same link that were just called "The Master of the .... painting."

I have never seen these ones before and the styles, the features of the people, etc. is very different.
