For many, one of the non-physical benefits of yoga, is increased awareness both on and off the mat.

One thing yoga has done for me is to help me recognize when I am being overly critical of myself and has helped me become more accepting of my perceived flaws.

What has yoga taught you about yourself?

Martha - I think my own lessons have been very similar. Yoga has given me a sense of growth being an ongoing process, not something you 'finish', so that I am not so focused on perceived imperfections, but instead on just working each pose in the moment, however I am feeling that particular day. It has also taught me patience, as I used to be involved in a lot of competitive sports and martial arts, which were more active, so learning to slow down and do the same poses over and over each day helped me to let go of a lot of impatience, which has translated into my every day life also.

P.S. I recently posted an article on one of the few forms of Tibetan Buddhist yoga taught, which might interest you. Namaste!

Thanks for sharing Lisa. I will check out the article. One of my favorite yoga teachers, Cyndi Lee, wrote a great book called Yoga Body, Buddha Mind! The two practices really seem to complement one another.

Yoga helps me to focus and concentrate better (clarity of thoughts). Yoga pranayamas and meditation are particularly helpful in mental growth and wellness. Yoga Poses help in increased body flexibility and physical wellness.
