I just finished reading The Agony and the Ecstasy, by Irving Stone, and now have a much greater respect and admiration for the works of Michaelangelo. My son has visited Italy and all the places where Michaelangelo lived and has seen many of his sculptures and architectural works. With my son discussing these things with me, I felt more connected to the story of Michaelangelo and thoroughly enjoyed the book.
David is my favorite sculpture of all Micahelangelo's works. What is your favorite?

Hi Phyllis,
I started that book last year, and I'm now sad I still haven't gotten through it. I agree, it does make you have a great respect for him though - and makes him seem so much more human-like.
My very, very favorite is his Medici Chapel - he did an amazing job bringing to life everything that was happening in history and showing his inner struggle within himself.
I could talk Michelangelo all day, haha.

The book was quite boring at times, but really brough Michelangelo to life for me. My son has visited Italy a few times and has gazed upon the works of this great artist. He said it was just so awe inspiring.

David is breathtaking and his Pieta brought me to tears, but my favorites are his unfinished slaves. I was fortunate to see them, and David and the Pieta, in Italy the Winter after I graduated from college with a BA in art and they were all fresh in my mind. Photographs are great, but nothing compares to seeing all the sculptures in person.

I read an article yesterday that the Medici Family is rising again. Archaeologists have dug up some of the family members for study to see how they lived and died. Two will not be disturbed and those two are in sarcophagi(sp?) that Michaelangelo carved.
