That is a wonderful article, Susan!

I hadn't done journaling for years and years, and I started again in December thanks to the forum here. I find it very centering after a long, super busy day to go up to bed, prop up the pillows, maybe light a candle or two, and start writing. It helps me take stock of all the things I worked on during the day, and what I can do better the next day. It really helps me fall asleep better. Where before I would stay awake all night thinking or worrying about something, now I write it down and promise to focus on it in the morning when I am fresh. Because it's written down I know I won't forget.

I've also been using your meditation techniques. Often I count my breaths in and out. If I start to get wrapped up thinking about to do lists I go back to counting breaths. Usually I get distracted around the count of 30 or 40 and have to start over again.

I have to visualize glowing numbers against my eyelids to really stay on focus to count them. I too easily get sucked into just thinking about all the tasks and to-dos I have to program the next day.

When I lose track of the count it's normally because I'm distracted by thoughts of to-do lists so it's usually not relaxation smile It's my racing mind. But the counting really is helping a lot, it is helping me learn to slow down that racing mind. It gets a bit better every night, so I am keeping at it.
